Somali Girl Burnt By Husband (Daawo)

Kenya (ssctimes.com) Faduma Ahmed is a 17 year old Somali girl living in Nairobi (Kenya), she came to the world’s attention after speaking about her shocking story regarding the terrible pain and disfigurement that led to her current suffering. In a video aired in most Somali TV and websites, as well as social media portals such as facebook shows Faduma’s speaking in Somali tells her name and explains how the severe burns on her body were caused by her jealous husband, whom since the incident had disappeared and no longer in contact.

She explains that at the age 14 she was made to enter into a marriage which lasted a short period, and soon after met her current husband who was often jealous of her. She describes that one morning she got up early as usual to make some breakfast then the phone rang, she answered the phone, it was her ex-husband. She spoke to the ex-husband for few minutes when she finished with the phone call, she was in the kitchen but as she hang up the phone and turned around to face the kitchen door, there was her husband starring at her with anger and jealousy, without saying a word he throw gas all over her dress and lit a match and quickly throw it on her setting her on fire.

As she run around, screaming for help, and burning in pain, he quietly went back to his room and locked the door to sleep, leaving her in pain and agony trying to stop the fire from spreading.

The current status is that Faduma’s arms are curled in, she is unable to open her arms and one side of her neck is partly stuck to her shoulder, she is unable to keep her neck straight.

Faduma’s plea video has had a lot of positive response from Somali diaspora, where a lot of fund raising and financial support has been jointly raised on compassionate grounds from mosques, gatherings and even TV channels such as SOMTV Seattle has been the leading force behind the majority of the funds raised to help the plight of Faduma.

Faduma’s situation still remains severe, she is yet to have any surgical help to help relieve her stress and pain, the incident has also left her physically and psychologically scarred as the immense pain she has endured that day and the one she is living with today are both horrific.
